FOOD

What is food? Food is something that is composed of protiens, carbohydrates, fats and water which is eaten and drunk for nutrition or pleasure. Every country has its own culture and traditions so food of every country varies from one country to another. However foods of other countries may be cooked in a country. For example,in Pakistan (Halal) foods of other countries are also cooked.




There may be two sources of food that are plants and animals. They can be used as foof in raw form(uncooked) or may be cooked.



Many plants or their parts are eaten as food. There are about 2000 plant species which are cultivated as a food. Vegetables are a type of plant matter that are used as a source of food. These include root vegetables, leaf vegetables and inflorescence vegetables. The other type are fruits and seeds of a plant. Seeds of plant are good source of food. Examples include wheat, rice, beans, peas and nuts. Fruits are a good source of protiens,vitamins etc. They are essential for the diet of most cultures as well as for Pakistani culture.


Animals are also used as a source of food. They are used in it directly or indirectly in the food. Examples of directly used is mutton or chicken meat and fish. Examples of indirectly used are dairy products such as milk, butter, cheese and eggs.
